Lesson learned: embrace the moment
A short reflection on moving to Scotland, getting buried in the build, and the small regret of not soaking in the culture around me sooner.
The build can wait, the moment can't
When you're heads-down shipping, it's easy to treat your surroundings as a backdrop. I moved my family to Scotland and, for a while, the castle on the hill, the hamlets where the sheep outnumber the people, and the long northern light were just scenery I drove past on the way to the next thing.
The lesson was simple and it stuck: immerse yourself in where you are. Adventures, new sights, and random chats with strangers light a spark that keeps the ideas flowing — and that spark is fuel for the work, not a distraction from it. Embrace the moment while it's here.
